Abstract

Decades of Dravidian dominance have created an infrastructure of power and patronage and an implicit understanding of how to do politics which is hard to shift. Unless Vijay can present himself as a real alternative or create a compelling narrative about the failings of the DMK, he might win a few seats here and there but would not be able to emulate the success of MGR. TVK politics cannot sustain merely on his charisma, it needs the convertibility factor for political success.
