Abstract

The author explores the role of ethics in law, surveying ethics and law in ancient life, society, justice, freedom, and responsibility, as well as the ethics found in the Indian Constitution. The author then looks at the role of ethics in judicial administration and ethical standards in legal profession and competence. The author after analysing public interest and accountability concludes that the relationship between Law and Ethics ultimately comes down to the norms and standards of conduct practised by lawyers, judges, and other functionaries of the legal system.
