Submission Guidelines
General
- The National Law School Journal accepts submissions on a rolling basis.
- There are no fees for submission or publication.
- Please note that we do not accept unsolicited submissions from undergraduate students. Those pursuing their postgraduation or PhD are welcome to submit.
- We request authors to disclose any use of AI on the cover page of their article submission document. The disclosure statement must identify the AI tool used, specify what AI was used for, and confirm that all AI-generated outputs were reviewed and revised by the author, who remains responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the work. The Editorial Board reserves the right to decide on publication based on whether the disclosed AI usage meets its academic publication standards.
- Research Articles (peer-reviewed): 5,000-8,000 words (flexible in exceptional cases)
- Overview Articles (peer-reviewed): up to 10,000 words (Detailed guidelines)
- Legislative and Case Notes (reviewed by the Editorial Board): 2,000-4,000 words
- Book Reviews (reviewed by the Editorial Board): 2,000-4,000 words (Detailed guidelines)
- Use British spelling, in accordance with the Oxford English Dictionary. For example, use ‘labour’ and not ‘labor’, ‘recognise’ and not ‘recognize’, and ‘standardise’ and not ‘standardize’.
- Consult the Oxford Standard Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) to cite sources.
- First-level headings should be numbered 1, 2 and so on.
- Second-level headings should be lettered A, B, C and so on.
- Third-level headings should be numbered (i), (ii), and so on.
- Use single quotation marks for quotations, and double quotation marks for quotations within quotations.
Types of submissions
Overview Articles and Book Reviews are generally solicited by the journal’s Editorial Board. Interested authors are strongly encouraged to submit a 200-300 word abstract in advance at nlsj@nls.ac.in
