Abstract
In a tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar, the author looks at Dr Ambedkar’s contributions to the law as a struggle for social justice. The author observes how reserved seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Legislatures and the provisions for compensatory discrimination under Articles 15 and 16 were his distinct contributions. Despite the controversy surrounding some of the practical implications of these provisions, the basic idea of compensatory discrimination has been entrenched into Indian jurisprudence. The author calls for the consolidation of the revolution Dr Ambedkar had initiated and thereby facilitate social transformation. (Editor’s abstract.)
