Abstract
The author argues that for lawyers all around the world their function is not merely to litigate and advise, but also the duty to educate the public about their rights under the law and about the role of the lawyers in helping to secure such rights. However, Nariman argues that the most fundamental duty of an individual lawyer is to be loyal to the independence of the legal profession and of individual members of that profession.
