HON’BLE MR. JUSTICE RAJESH KUMAR AGRAWAL

Former Judge, Supreme Court of India & President of National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, New Delhi

Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.K. Agrawal hails from Uttar Pradesh. He did his graduation in Law from Allahabad University. He enrolled as Advocate on 14.08.1976. Joined the chamber of his father Sri Raja Ram Agrawal, Senior Advocate and former Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh on Civil side and dealt with Constitutional, Company, Service, Educational and Taxation matters. Worked as Standing Counsel of the Income Tax Department of the Government of India. Served a number of corporations and institutions as their Standing Counsel. Was Joint Editor of U.P. Tax Cases. Elevated as permanent Judge of the Allahabad High Court on 05.02.1999. Assumed office as Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Madras on 07.02.2013. Assumed office as Chief Justice, High Court of Madras on 24.10.2013. He was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India and sworn in on 17.02.2014. Retired on 04.05.2018. Appointed as President of National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on 01.07.2018 after retirement from the Supreme Court of India.

Dr. MARIMUTHU NADASON

President, Consumers International and the Federation of Malaysian Consumer Association

He is an advocate and leader in the field of consumerism and social development. He is Chairman for the Malaysian Standards and Accreditation Council (MSAC), and the Board of Directors at the National Consumer Complaints Centre (NCCC). He has served as the Chairman of the National Consumer Advisory Council of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism. Marimuthu is past Chairperson for the Asian Partnership for Development of Human Resources in Rural Asia (AsiaDHRRA) and also the Co-Chair for the Asian Network for Consumer Participation in Standardization (ANCO). He has presented papers at national and international conferences on various aspects of consumerism and standards development.

PROF. HANS W. MICKLITZ

Professor of Economic Law, European University Institute

Professor Hans W. Micklitz, Professor of Economic Law in the Law Department, will retire this summer after 12 years at the EUI. Since joining the EUI as Professor of Law in 2007, Prof. Micklitz has served as Director of Graduate Studies from 2009-2012 and Head of the Law Department from 2012-2014. Outside of the EUI, Prof. Micklitz has also worked as Head of the Advisory Board of the Max-Planck-Institute for Innovation and Competition, Jean Monnet Chair of European Economic Law at the Universities of Bamberg/Erlangen for Civil Law, and Head of the Institute of European and Consumer Law, Bamberg, in addition to multiple visiting professorships and consultancies in institutions across Europe and the USA. He has received multiple prizes, including Finland’s Distinguished Professor of the Academy of Science. He was also the recipient of an ERC Grant for his project European Regulatory Private Law, for which he served as Director of Research from 2011-2016. Prof. Micklitz has published prolifically throughout his career, authoring books such as European Economic Law with Stephen Weatherill (Farnham: Ashgate, 1997), The Politics of Judicial Cooperation in the EU (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2005), and The Politics of Justice in EU Private Law (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2018).

PROF. GERIANT HOWELLS

Executive Dean, Business, Public Policy and Lawm National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway

Professor Geraint Howells is Dean at City University of Hong Kong. His publications include Comparative Product Liability, Consumer Product Safety, Consumer Protection Law, EC Consumer Law, Product Liability and European Fair Trading Law and the Tobacco Challenge. Professor Howells often consults to the European Commission, DTI and NCC and was a member of the European Consumer Law Group. He was previously editor of the Consumer Law Journal, the Revue Européene de Droit de la Consommation, and European Business Law Library; and is currently editor of the markets and law series for Ashgate publishers and the Yearbook of Consumer Law. Professor Howells has taught at the universities of Hull, Keele, Liverpool, Sheffield, Lancaster, Manchester, Tennessee, Würzburg, Münster, Paris XI and Sydney.

PROF. (Dr.) RANBIR SINGH

Former and Founding Vice-Chancellor,National Law University, Delhi

Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh is the former and founder Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Delhi established by the Delhi Government in 2008. In just a short span of 12 years he has steered NLU, Delhi which has been ranked as the 2nd best law school of India in the NIRF – 2018 rankings. It’s the acknowledgement of his administrative and leadership abilities that NLU, Delhi is now recognized not only in India but also at the international level.With over two decades of experience in heading the law school he carries the aura of a visionary who as an outstanding statesmen and academician shown immense commitment and contribution towards changing the legal education landscape of the country. Prior to his stint in NLU, Delhi, he was the founder Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR, University of Law, established by the Andhra Pradesh Government and had been at its helm since its inception in 1998. Prof. Singh’s acumen took NALSAR to great heights as a well-known premier institution for legal education and research in the country. He has been a Vice-Chancellor for over 20 years now.

PROF. GAIL PEARSON

Professor of Law, The University of Sydney Business School

Professor Gail Pearson (BA (Hons), PHD, LLB) is a leading academic in the fields of financial services, commercial and consumer laws. She is the author of Pearson, G Financial Services Law and Compliance Cambridge University Press 2009, Pearson, Fisher and Ali Commercial Law: Commentary and Materials (ed2) Lawbook 2004, the major Australian text in this area and also of Consumer Protection Law, ed 5 Federation 1998 (with Goldring, Maher and McKeough). She has published numerous articles in Australian and international journals including a pieces on risk, self-regulation and innovation in financial services. Gail Pearson is a former Member of the Fair Trading Tribunal of New South Wales (now Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal), the chief venue for resolving consumer disputes. She is currently a member of the Fair Trading Advisory Council (a statutory advisory committee to the Minister for Fair Trading) and a member of the consultative committee to the Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal. She is on the Executive Board of the International Association of Consumer Law(Helsinki) and the Consumer Committee of the International Law Association (London).

PROF. V. VIJAYKUMAR

Vice Chancellor, National Law Institute University, Bhopal

Prof V Vijayakumar was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of National Law Institute University (NLIU Bhopal) in 2018, amidst chronic student protests against maladministration at the law school. He was appointed as Assistant Professor of Law in 1988, as Associate Professor in 1992 and Professor of Law in 1997. Prior to joining NLSIU he was teaching at the Presidency College, Madras. He was the Registrar of NLSIU between 2005 and 2008. He administered the UNHCR Chair on Refugee Law between April 1997 and April 2018. He was awarded Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship at the Salzburg Seminar in 1993. He was a Visiting Scholar with York University, Toronto, Canada at its Centre for Refugee Studies during 2000-2003 and was Exchange Visitor at National University of Singapore during 2004 to 2005 under the Asian Law Institute programme. He visited U.S.A in 1988 under International Visitor’s Programme of the USIS on ‘The Living Constitution’. Representing the Law School, he was a Member and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Asian Law Institute located in Singapore National University till 2009. He was the Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai between 2010 and 2013. He was conferred the ‘Amity Academic Excellence Award’ during 2011 and the Best Vice-Chancellor’s Award by the Indian Redcross Society during 2012. He has published more than 47 articles in national and international journals and has contributed to a couple of books as well. He was Chairman, Under-Graduate Council between 1997 and 1999 and of the Post-Graduate Council between 2003 and 2005 at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. He was also a Member of Karnataka State Higher Education Council between 2012 and 2016. His areas of specialization include Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Human Rights Law, Law of Elections, Refugee and Humanitarian Law. He was the Senior Professor of Law at National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore before joining NLIU Bhopal as its Director.

PROF. (Dr.) C. RAJASHEKHAR

Former Dean & Chairman, Post Graduate Department of Law, Karnataka University, Dharwad

Dr.C.Rajashekhar completed his graduation from National Law College in Shimoga and he joined the Department of Post-Graduate studies in Law of Mysore University. He got First Rank in LL.M and is a recipient of Lalana Narayan Gold Medal. He is specialized in the areas of Constitutional and Administrative law. He started his teaching career in JSS Law College, Mysore in 1983 and later shifted to Dharwad and joined the Post Graduate Department of Law, Karnatak University in 1986 as lecturer. He served in various capacities as lecturer, Reader, and Professor in the Department for a period of 30 years till 2016. As a faculty member he contributed a lot in making both Department and University College of Law as centres of excellance in legal education. He headed the Department as the Chairman for Four terms and as the Dean, Faculty of Law for three terms. Further, he has also served as the Principal of KUSSK Law College and the Director, School of School of Correspondence of the Karnatak University. He was also the Dean of Kuvempu University, Shimoga and Alliance School of law, Bangalore. He was part of Karnatak University administration in various capacities. He was the Registrar(Evaluation)during 2008-2010,the Acting Registrar(General) in 2002, and In charge Vice Chancellor on several occasions. As senior most Dean of the University he headed various committees of the University. He was the member of selection committees of various universities in India like University of Kerala, Shivaji university, Kolhapur, Bangalore University and Rani Channamma University,Belgaum Alliance University, Bangalore and Karnatak State Law University. In the academic field Dr.Rajashekhar has made significant contribution. He has guided 21 research students for their PhD degree and four M.Phil students. He participated in a number of national and international seminars, conferences and symposia and presented papers on wide variety of legal topics. His articles are published in reputed law journals. He has authored two books-Social Revolution under Indian Constitution and Humanisation of Prison Administration in India published by reputed publishers from New Delhi.
