Abstract
India has experienced a significant decline in the population unable to afford a healthy diet, dropping from 59.8% in 2017 to 35.5% by 2025. However, this increase in basic food affordability has not resolved persistent malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, as public policies continue to prioritize heavy carbohydrate staples over diverse, nutrient-rich foods.
