Abstract
The article situates the television series Heated Rivalry within historis of the romance genre and the emergence of masculinity within psychoanalysis in the 20th century. It suggests that the show's fantasy of masculinity may be seen to be creating an emotionally safe space where desire can be enjoyed in a hyper-mediatised world. Rather than see fantasy as escape, they expose reality’s confusions and the ways in which we live with them.
