Abstract
The Sardar Sarovar Project (SP), popularly know as the Narmada dam project being executed in the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra is in the thick of many a controversy, with a Public Interest Litigation pending before the Supreme Court praying for stoppage of the construction of the dam. The object of this article is to highlight the issues surrounding the controversy and draw ones attention to the debate surrounding the construction of the dam in particular and the project in general, its consequent effects and possible alterna- tives.
