Abstract
Even as we celebrate the glory of nearly half a century of Independence, the Indian Parliament still suffers from a colonial hangover and unhesitantly copies the lex parliamenti of imperial Britain. While borrowing from Britain the philos- ophy of privileges, the Indian parliament has developed its own disease of distorting and disrupting the constitutional scheme. How long will our indepen- dent country, committed to democratic values afford the luxury of closing the doors for future adaptation of old privileges in new context codifying its own? In order to appreciate the whole issue of codification of parliamentary privileges, the whole controversy surrounding, the Parliamentary privilege vis-a-vis the consti- tutional framework needs to be viewed afresh.
